Under the aegis of SPICMACAY, every year World Dance Day is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and zeal at RSJMS. This year too, Pandit Rammohan Maharaj, a famous Kathak exponent from the Kalka Bindadin Gharana and son of Pandit Shambhu Maharaj ji, was invited to perform for the students and familiarize them with the Indian culture and heritage. The morning started with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony followed by a Kathakali dance performance by Adi Chawla of class P5. His elaborate costume, make-up and the depiction of Tandav was indeed applaudable. Maharaj ji explained the nuances of Kathak through his performance and did a jugalbandi of the ghungroo and the tabla. He beautifully depicted Sri Krishna’s Raas Leela. He involved the audience by inviting all the students learning Kathak on the stage and taught them a new Taal. The performance cum lecture session by Pandit Rammohan Maharaj was thoroughly enjoyed by the students and teachers alike.
