Under the aegis of SPICMACAY, every year World Dance Day is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and zeal at RSJMS. This year too Padmashree awardee,  Ms. Geeta Mahalik, one of the finest exponents of the Indian classical dance form of Odissi was invited to speak to the children and familiarize them with the rich Indian culture and heritage. The programme began with the traditional lamp lighting. Smt. Geeta ji started by explaining the origin of Odishi dance in the great Jagannath temple by Maharees ( dancing girls) in front of the deities-Lord Krishna ,his elder brother Balram and their sister Subhadra followed by Manglacharan -Trikhandi and Bhoomi Pranaam . She involved the audience by inviting all P5 girls learning any form of classical dance  to dance with her on Ektaal. The final performance was based on the theme ”Swatchch Bharat Abhiyaan”, she explained the importance of this term to the children, through dance. The performance cum lecture session by Ms. Geeta Mahalik was thoroughly enjoyed by the students and teachers alike.
